In practical terms: improvements in same day access of care, Emergency Room and Urgent Care visits reduced by half, a decrease in Primary Care visits by 20% and a decrease in hospital visits by 53%. NUKA System of Care

National Baldrige Award - Nonprofit

Southcentral Foundation's "Nuka System of Care" is a name given to the whole health care system created, managed, and owned by Alaska Native people to achieve physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness. Nuka is an Alaska Native word used for strong, giant structures and living things.

The relationship-based Nuka System of Care is comprised of organizational strategies and processes; medical, behavioral, dental and traditional practices; and supporting infrastructure that work together - in relationship - to support wellness.

Southcentral Foundation offers a wide range of health and wellness services for Alaska Native and American Indian people living in Anchorage and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley, and nearby villages. NUKA also provides regional support to residents of 55 rural villages in the Anchorage Service Unit, a geographical area stretching 107,400 square miles across Southcentral Alaska – extending from the Canadian border on the east to the Aleutian Chain and Pribilof Islands on the west.
